Up Late, Listening to the Cranberries

A red-stained tangle
of bad ideas.  The sound
pulling you under.
Smooth toxic thrum.
An unfurling like fog,
snagging on fruit trees.
You are lost fast
in this Massachusetts bog,
the sour floods stringing
your bones with echoes-
