#facade
By: That Sweatpants Kid

Hi my name is…hold on…pause what the fuck is wrong with me?

Always afraid of what I could be…

You ever had one of those moments where you are so fucking nervous…and for some reason…you can’t remember your own fucking name?

Always afraid of what I might say…

I’m having one of those moments right now…except that at this very moment you think I’m acting and trying to get a rise out of you…

Always afraid that I’m lying to you…

Truth is…this monologue is just a part of this poem…I’m tryna be honest and speak the truth..with these words that I type on my phone because it touches the hearts of a courageous few…

Always afraid of what they never knew…

The power of a facade to hide from your originality…it’s not an act…but a shield from reality…the lack of this protection leaves us vulnerable to the brutality…

It’s just a facade…people like me use it on an everyday basis to hide OUR true feelings and who WE really are…

Why?

That’s a question I wish I could answer…maybe it’s just a reflex…as easy as telling a lie…

Afraid of the unexpected…afraid of being judged…afraid of the staring eyes that never budge…afraid that what you say will make them hold a grudge…

Afraid of expressing your feelings because it makes you soft if you’re a guy…but it’s always been okay for girls to cry…

The double standards that we constantly allow for others to uphold…we should always try to pry out of societies grasp and break from the mold…

We sometimes get stuck and forget who we are…we often forget to do what makes us smile…just stop, take a deep breath and think for awhile…

Is this what “I” really want? Is this really for me?

Never be afraid of what you can be…
